Throughout the month of January, the Council of the European Union organized several WP TELE meetings with a view to analyse in depth some of the outstanding issues for the ePrivacy proposal (ePR).
On February 7, WP TELE met to discuss a compromise text on outstanding ePR provisions concerning:
- the impact of ePR on new technologies, such as IoT and AI
- consent requirements and consent collection technologies
- processing of electronic communications data for the purposes of child protection
- the exclusion of national security and defence from the scope of ePR
It is likely that the ePR final approval will arrive by this summer, after EU general election take place.
Compromise to the ePrivacy Regulation proposal to be discussed by WP TELE today. Among other themes, the impact of new ePrivacy rules on IoT and AI, as well as consent collection technologies and possible derogations.
